Dear Parents/Guardians,
Re: Early Release Wednesdays Starting September 12th, 2018
Hopefully, we can all agree that the purpose of schools is student learning. The most significant factor in how well students learn is teacher quality. Teacher quality is improved through continuous professional learning. During the 2018-2019 school year the School District of Waupaca will be introducing a one and a quarter hour early release (on Wednesdays) for the purpose of Professional Learning Time (PLT). The Waupaca Learning Center, Chain Elementary, Chain Exploration Center Charter School, Waupaca Middle School, and Waupaca High School will dismiss students every Wednesday at 2:00 pm. There will be no impact to W4K or the Early Childhood Special Education Programs, those students will not be released at 2:00 pm.
Research provides a strong rationale for regular collaboration time. During this time, teachers and administrators will engage in data analysis, curriculum development and instructional strategies designed to meet the academic, social and emotional needs for ALL students. The time our staff spends honing the art of teaching will ensure our students continue to exceed expectations and perform at high levels.
We understand that the early release schedule may present challenges for some families. Therefore, students will have the option to remain at school under the supervision of our Educational Assistants and ride the regularly scheduled bus home as they would any other day. We also understand that some families may prefer pick their child up from school or allow their child to go home at the end of the instructional day. As a parent or guardian you will have the opportunity to make that choice for your son or daughter and communicate your desire to your building principal(s).
The District vision is: We are committed to excellence in education! Being committed to educational excellence means that we recognize the relationship between Professional Learning Time and improved student achievement. The District appreciates your support for our professional educators and our students. For your review, we have attached the 2018-2019 Student Calendar and a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) sheet addressing the questions you may have.
Sincerely,
Greg Nyen
