Community

Spanning 160 square miles, Waupaca School District serves the educational needs of Waupaca and the surrounding area.  The population of the city of Waupaca is 6,069 per the 2010 census.  Located in Central Wisconsin, Waupaca is a major host to tourism.  The area is rich in recreational activities with its 22 spring fed chain of lakes, rivers, biking and hiking trails, and many other outdoor activities.  Currently the district consists of two elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school utilizing 4K–2, 4K-4, 5–8, and 9–12 grade-level configurations.

School

Waupaca High School is a comprehensive four-year public high school enrolling approximately 700 students in grades 9–12.  66% of the 58 professional staff hold a Master’s Degree.

Curriculum

The academic program is organized on an eight period class schedule consisting of 44 minute class periods.  Students have the opportunity to work at an accelerated pace through the Gifted and Talented program.
The following AP courses have been authorized by College Board for delivery at Waupaca High School: Biology, Calculus AB, Calculus BC, Chemistry, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Physics 1, Psychology, Spanish Language and Culture, Statistics, Studio Art: 2-D Design, Studio Art: 3-D Design, Studio Art: Drawing, US Government and Politics, United States History, World History.

Students may take CAPP (Cooperative Academic Partnership Program) courses such as: Communications 111 - Fundamentals of Speech Communication, English 101 – College English I, English 214 – American Literature II, and Theatre 161 – Introduction of Theatre.  These classes are offered in conjunction with the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

A total of 24 credits are required for graduation including:

4 credits English

3 credits Math

3 credits Science

3 credits Social Studies

1.5 credits Physical Education

.5 credits Health (may be completed grades 7-12)

.5 credits Computer Studies

8.5 credits Electives

Pass Wisconsin State Civics Exam

Grade Point Average (GPA) Calculation

GPA is computed using the quality points noted in the table below. Beginning with grade nine, all subjects, whether passed or failed, are included in the computation. Final semester grades are recorded on the transcript and GPA is computed in January and June.

Class Rank

Students are ranked according to their cumulative grade point average and class rank is noted on the transcript.  There may be 2 or more students with the same rank should they have the same grade point average.  Class rank is calculated at the end of each semester which occurs in January and June.
