WAUPACA MIDDLE SCHOOL EXTRACURRICULAR CODE
Includes all extracurricular activities, athletics and clubs.
BASIC REGULATIONS FOR ALL PARTICIPANTS
1. Students must attend school the full day of the event.
Exceptions:
i. medical appointments(inform coaches in advance)
ii. family emergencies
iii. extenuating circumstances as approved by the principal and/or coach
NOTE: Any school suspension on the day of the activity will result in non-participation in that extra-curricular event.
2. To participate actively in any athletic sport the student must be eligible, have a physical, concussion agreement, and physician referral after an injury on file. (Exception: Managers)
3. Coaches shall encourage all athletes to maintain good grade standards. SWAT and other after school obligations to teachers shall take precedence over any extracurricular activity. Parents are encouraged to monitor their child's grade reports.
4. Use of drugs and alcohol and smoking are prohibited. Use of these materials may result in your suspension from the activity.
5. Each coach/advisor may have additional regulations for each activity.
6. Students are responsible for all equipment issued to them. They are also responsible for the behavior and the possible consequences resulting from misuse of equipment or facilities.
7. To be eligible, the student must be passing all classes. (Dances excluded)
i. If a student fails one or more classes for a quarter, he/she automatically receives a one week suspension, beginning at the start of the next quarter.
ii. If a coach receives notification that a student’s grade is an F he/she automatically receives a one week suspension, which will run from Friday through the following Thursday. Students will attend games and practice until the suspension begins on Friday.
iii. To regain eligibility, the student must have written notification from the teacher(s) that he/she is now passing. This is not to be secured until the suspension period is over. IT IS THE STUDENT'S RESPONSIBILITY TO GET THIS NOTE AND TO PRESENT IT TO THE COACH.
iv. While on suspension, the student may not practice or participate in any extra-curricular activities. He/she may not travel with the team.
8. Extenuating circumstances may occur in which the principal will make the final decision regarding the eligibility of a student.
